An event is added to represent any action (e.g. titration, open/close the chamber, stirrer on/off) at a defined point in time in one or both chambers, and is labeled by a name. The event is represented by a vertical line on the graph, and is independent from the selected plot. Event labels are shown above the line at the top of the graph. If the same event was set in both chambers the line and label will be black. If the event was set in only one chamber it will be light red in chamber A or green in chamber B. Events can be classified as free events, protocol events or instrumental events.

Setting events

Different types of events can be set during the measurement (recommended) or after the measurement in a recorded file.

Protocolevent.png
  • Potocol events: are part of a DL-protocol and are displayed on the protocol sidebar (e.g. E: ce1) in the order they should be set. By left clicking the corresponding event the ‘Event information’ window pops-up and the event can be set by clicking ‘OK’. The events in the sideprotocol bar are color coded to indicate the next event to be set (yellow), properly set events (green), multi-step events (cyan) and events set out of sequence (red).
  • Free events: are not part of a DL-Protocol and are set to indicate an additional step performed by the user (e.g. to indicate a manual titration into the chamber). By pressing [F4] or through the top menu Experiment > Add event, a free event can be set. The event is added at the end of the recorded interval at the moment this option is selected .When setting a new event, the ‘Event information’ window pops up, and the default name ‘Event’ should be changed accordingly. The chamber where the event was set is selected by default and can be changed (A, B or both).

Protocol and free events can also be inserted at any chosen time of the measurement by placing the cursor anywhere on the graph at the selected time point and holding Ctrl + pressing the left click. The ‘Event information’ window appears and the user can choose (i) a user-defined name to generate a free event or (ii) select a DL8-Protocol event from the right table (double-left-clicking). The chamber where the event is set is selected by default and can be changed (A, B or both).

Managingevents.png
  • Instrumental events: are automatically set by the software due to a change in the instrumental settings (e.g. Loff: light off; Lon: light on; Stir A On: Stirrer A reached speed setting of 750 rpm; Fluo A Int 0: Fluo Chamber A Intensity changed to 0) or conditions (Measurement limit: Raw value measurement limit has been reached; also displayed as a blinking warning on the side of the graph). The display of instrumental events and notifications can be disabled in the ‘Graph options’ window – Advanced

Events already set in the graph can be further managed. By right clicking on the event or event name, the following actions can be performed:

  • Edit event: the ‘Event information’ window pops-up and information related to the event can be edited. Other possibilities to open the ‘Event information’ window are left clicking on the event name in the graph or on the set event in the protocol bar, in case of a protocol event.
  • Delete event: the event is deleted from the graphs where it has been set (A, B or both).
  • Drag event: the event can be moved along the graph and be set at a different time point by dragging it.

Event information

Contains detailed information about the event and allows its management. In case of DL-Protocol events, information is already pre-filled according to the selected DL-Protocol. For free events, the user should enter the event information.

Eventinformation.png
  • Name: Displays the event name. When entering event names, short entries (e.g. O instead of Open) are recommended.
  • Definition: Displays the event definition.
  • Concentration: Displays the final concentration in the chamber of the added chemical.
  • Titration volume [µL]: Displays the volume added to the chamber.
  • Time: indicates the time when the event was set on the plot.
  • Comment: further details and information can be entered into the text field.
  • Chamber: select the O2k-chamber (A, B, or both) where the event has to be set. The event will be shown on plots for both or the individually selected chamber.
  • Delete event: once an event is set, it can be deleted by left clicking the button.
  • Protocol name: displays the name of the selected protocol (if applicable).
  • List of events: lists the DL-protocol events from the selected dlp8/dlpu8 and related information including name, description, concentration, titration volume [µL] and multi-step information.
  • Instructions: provides detailed instructions and information on how to correctly follow the protocol steps. It is related to the event selected in the list of events above.
  • OK/Cancel: To set an event or save any changes in the window, click OK, otherwise click Cancel.

DatLab 7

An event in DatLab is a defined point in time, labelled by a name (1 to 10 characters). An event applies to all plots of the selected O2k-Chamber. The event is shown by a vertical line in the graph and the label of the event is shown on the top (DatLab 6 and lower: on the bottom). The default name is the sequential number of the event. It is recommended to edit event labels with a minimum number of characters, and to explain the abbreviation in the 'Definition' box. The final concentration and titration volume can be entered into the corresponding boxes, if the event relates to the titration of a substance. A short comment can be entered to describe the event in detail.

  • Set events - Manual events are entered (real-time, connected to the O2k) by pressing [F4] at the time of the event (e.g. to indicate a manual titration into the chamber). An event belongs either to chamber A, chamber B, or both. Instrumental events are added automatically, e.g. when the stirrer (A or B) or illumination (both chambers) is switched on or off.
Experiment-menu.png

After setting a new event the Edit event window pops up. Pressing F4 defines the time point of the event. Full attention can then be paid to the experiment. Edit the event later, as it is possible to insert an event at any chosen moment of the plotted record of the experiment by placing the cursor anywhere in the graph at the selected time point by pressing Ctrl and clicking the left mouse button.

  • Edit event - Left click on the name of an existing event to open the Edit event window to edit or Delete event.

In events obtained from a selected protocol (protocol events), the entire sequence of consecutive events is defined with event names, definitions, concentrations and titration volumes. Name - Enter an event name of 1 to 10 characters. Short names (e.g. O instead of Open) are recommended. Comment - Further information can be entered into the text field.

Chamber

Select O2k-chamber A, B or both. The Event will be shown on plots for both or one selected chamber.
