The first meeting of the European network (MitoEAGLE) for the study of Mitochondrial Bioenergetics was held in Verona from November 15th to 17th, with researchers from all over Europe, who gathered to take stock of research and share data and study methods.
Erich Gnaiger: "This network aims to bring together scientists and researchers working in the field of Mitochondrial Research to share data methodologies. One of the slogans that we coined on this occasion is “By sharing data we will be stronger”."
Elisa Calabria: "Mitochondrial transcription may be one of the indexes that will be integrated as a health index - we are particularly interested in aging and fragility in aging and we think we can find some parameters that will allow us to predict the good trend of our aging rather than a state of fragility in mitochondrial respiration."
Federico Schena: "Starting from mitochondria seems to be a very far start but this is todays research method, it is a research that is molecular in its bases and then must necessarily become applied translational. Therefore, being within the COST project is fully consistent with the path of training and qualification of the research for Sport Sciences which, however, has been pursuing for years and which in these years is certainly also a considerable satisfaction. For us, the theme of aging and the relationship between physical activity and lifestyle aging is a theme that we have been following for a long time also in collaboration on the territory with the local municipality, hospital and region, but also with broad vision. This project helps us to be qualified from a scientific point of view but at the same time also to be fully at the service of the people who live in Verona, who find in the physical activity an instrument of well-being of quality of life."
