Description
Aconitase is the enzyme that catalyzes the reversible isomerization of citrate to isocitrate. In mitochondria, it is part of the tricarboxylic acid cycle, but an isoform is also present in the cytosol acting as a trans-regulatory factor that controls iron homeostasis at a post-transcriptional level.
