:::* WG leaders have to be MC members, exceptionally MC substitute.
:::* Colleagues from '''Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC)''' and '''Early Career Investigator (ECI)''' should be well represented as WG leaders, and rotation of some MC members for ECI should be considered by some COST National Coordinators.
:::* A rotational system can be implemented and is even encouraged. WG co-leaders may be elected at the MC meeting with the intention to rotate at a given time point between WG leaderΒ  and WG co-leader. Both should be MC members.

Suggestions

General

2016-09-06 The COST Association organised a workshop for the Main Proposers of new Actions in Brussels, to familiarise the Main Proposers with the functioning of COST and COST Actions. Some relevent suggestions summarized by Erich from this meeting:
  • Working Group (WG) leaders have to be MC Members, exceptionally MC Substitutes.
  • Define in advance Short Term Scientific Missions with ITC and ECI in mind, decide on assessment criteria: 2 x Hungary to Innsbruck; 1 x Germany to Innsbruck
  • Aim at 50% of budget in support of Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC); 2nd Grant Period: events in ITCs.

Core Group

  • Federica Ortelli (our COST Science Officer): "The Core Group (CG) is typically composed of the Action Chair, Vice Chair, Grant Holder Scientific Representative, WG Leaders, STSM and TS (???) coordinators and any other horizontal role (i.e. about 10-12 persons). The CG meets to take decisions on behalf of the MC (if the CG has the formal mandate to do so by the MC), and otherwise to steer the Action and submits a list of decisions for the MC to approve."
  • Suggestions for MITOEAGLE CG horizontal roles: Dissemination Coordinator; COST Policy Coordinator - Early Career Investigators (ECI); COST Policy Coordinator - Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC); MITOEAGLE - MiPsociety Coordinator (General Secretary; Verena Laner as an MC Substitute).
  • Building capacity: Colleagues from Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC) and Early Career Investigator (ECI) should be well represented as WG Leaders, and rotation of some MC Members for ECI should be considered by some COST National Coordinators.
  • A rotational system can be implemented and is even encouraged. WG Co-leaders may be elected at the MC meeting with the potential to rotate at a given time point between WG Leader and WG Co-leader. Both should be MC Members (or MC Substitutes).
  • Mentoring: define senior scientists for mentoring ECI as WG Leaders and Co-leaders.

Chair, Grant Holder, Scientific Representative

  • Suggestions as documented in e-COST
  • Chair: Erich Gnaiger, Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria
  • Vice Chair: Elisa Calabria, University of Verona, Italy
