Description
Salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM; synonym: 2-Hydroxybenzohydroxamic acid N,2-Dihydroxybenzamide) is an inhibitor of the alternative oxidase (AOX). When AOX is blocked by SHAM, electrons are forced through the CIII-cytochrome c oxidase pathway, allowing observation of the operation of the CIII-CIV pathway without AOX activity.
Abbreviation: SHAM

Application in HRR
- SHAM: Salicylhydroxamic acid (2-Hydroxybenzohydroxamic acid; HOC6H4CONHOH), Sigma-Aldrich: S607, store at RT, CAS: 89-73-6, M = 153.14 g·mol-1
- Hazard statements: H312, H332, H315, H319, H335, H351; harmful in contact with skin, harmful if inhaled, causes skin irritation, causes serious eye irritation, may cause respiratory irritation, suspected of causing cancer
- SHAM: Salicylhydroxamic acid (2-Hydroxybenzohydroxamic acid; HOC6H4CONHOH), Sigma-Aldrich: S607, store at RT, CAS: 89-73-6, M = 153.14 g·mol-1
- SHAM is reported to be easily soluble in EtOH. So EtOH could be considered as a solvent, too. However, in Oroboros-lab SHAM in EtOH has not been tested yet.
- Preparation of 250 mM stock solution (dissolved in DMSO):
- Weigh 76.57 mg of SHAM.
- Dissolve in 1950 µL of DMSO.
- Divide into 0.2 mL portions
- Store at -20 °C.
- Preparation of 250 mM stock solution (dissolved in DMSO):
- » O2k Manual Titrations: MiPNet09.12 O2k-Titrations
- Titration volume: 8 µL
- Final conc. in 2 mL O2k chamber: 1 mM
